It’s a pleasure that you visited my blog. My name is Liucija (Lucy) – nice to meet you! I will tell you a little bit about myself and about my long-awaited work – Lithuanian in the USA.
From a young age I loved Lithuanian cuisine and its’ dishes. I grew up surrounded by the Lithuanian cooking traditions. But in the true sense of the word – a grandmother in the village constantly used to bake homemade bread, kugel on a cabbage leaves, buns with apples and other goods in a homemade furnace. Oh, I don’t think I will ever have a chance to try such a delicious grandmother’s Christmas Eve cold beetroot and dried mushrooms soup… In my childhood I was very curious (curiosity did not diminished), and in itself, I used to participate in all cooking processes, both at home and grandmothers kitchens. I am still a big sweet tooth, so I bake pastries, cakes and other high sugar content accommodating delicacies quite a long time, perhaps 12 years. Out of curiosity, I like to continue baking and cooking, experiment in the kitchen, in order to discover new flavors and images on the plate.
I am from a small town Prienai (Lithuania). I’ve lived there all my life, until one day I decided to raise the wings and see how people live in foreign countries. My fate made its orders and as I wish – I found myself in Spain, there have spent 1 year – amazing, fun, colorful. I got to know with the Spanish culture, Spaniards way of life, traditions, kitchen (it’s amazing!) and most importantly – I met my future husband. After Spain my fate settled me in the United States, sunny Florida. Well, in Florida I feel almost like in Spain: sun, Spanish language, tanned faces and many southern everyday life similarities, who came from Central and South America. USA – what a huge mix of cultures, traditions, views and, of course, tastes are here..!
As you understood – my blog is mostly about Lithuanian, Spanish, American, Central and South American recipes. Although… sometimes I go astray and make something from Chinese, Indian cuisines and etc. But, again – out of curiosity, once in a while I want cook something new. Also, in my blog you can read about American life peculiarities, comparisons with the European way of life. Believe me, all said that Columbus discovered the New World not in vain. There are really a lot of sights, curiosities and differences. Before traveling to the United States I wanted to learn more about life in the United States, and while browsing the Internet I missed a sincere, accurate, Lithuanians stories about life in the USA. Therefore, I thought that my blog would be a good source for those who are looking for some interesting, lively stories about life in the USA. And so was born the name – Lithuanian in the USA – delicious recipes and sincere stories about life in the USA. Everything is very simple and clear.
