Herring with Tomato Sauce
It’s been a while since I’ve made something from herring. Well, there isn’t much cooking using herring, you just need to prepare a sauce or some relish and slice herring fillet. But this time I wanted to prepare herring somewhat differently, not as usually. So if you decide to try my recipe – have patience 🙂 Preparing herring according to this recipe you will need to wait a few days until you can actually try it. Surely you read it well – for a few days. This is due to the fact that the sauce has to stay in a fridge for a couple days, because the ingredients need to “connect with each other“, and then the herring has to “become friends“ with the sauce. But it’s really worth waiting, because the taste is 10 points (even the pickiest gourmets will love it!). This kind of herring is great for holidays, since it’s convenient to prepare in advance (a day or two) and thus save time.

Ingredients

    • 3 herring fillet slices
    • 2 small pickle
    • 1 medium sized onion
    • 1 tbsp. chopped fresh dill
    Sauce:
    • 2 tbsp. ketchup
    • 2 tbsp. tomato paste
    • 1 tbsp. granulated sugar
    • 1 tbsp. olive oil
    • 1 tbsp. white vinegar (5 % acidity)

    Recipe Directions

  1. 1. Tomato sauce: Mix all sauce ingredients in one bowl. Cover the bowl and keep in a fridge for 2 days.
  2. 2. Cut herring fillets into small slices and dice pickles. Cut onion in half and slice it.
